Candida Diet 101

So what exactly is the Candida Diet, you ask?  After my diet this past week, I definitely need a review too.

Basically, it is a funky word for yeast and fungal overgrowth, which affects millions.  Most of the common symptoms are bloating, weight gain, arthritis, allergies, and acne.  In the book, The Candida Cure, author Ann Boroch, CNC, goes into detail about a 90 day diet that you can do to beat candida and restore your body to health.  I found the book helpful and recommend it if you’re interested in learning more.

In short, Boroch says that you need to eliminate all sugar, dairy products, refined carbs, and yeast to kill the overgrowth of yeast.  These foods feed the yeast, allowing it to continue multiplying in your body.   Boroch warns the dieters that you are eliminating food you are “going to crave more of the offending foods, but as you cleans, your body will start to desire healthier foods, and it will be easier to trust the signals that if gives you”.  I always crave sugar, but there is hope that the longer is it out of your system, the less you will crave it.

Here is a basic list of what you CAN eat:

Animal Protein: beef, buffalo, lamb, chicken, duck, eggs, fish (limit shellfish), turkey

Grains:  Amaranth, brown rice, buckwheat, millet, brown rice pasta, teff, quinoa, wild rice.

Vegetables:  All (EXCEPT corn, mushrooms, peas and potatoes), 1-2 servings a week of sweet potatoes and/or yams

Beans and Legumes:  All, excepts peas and fermented soy products.  **If you can’t drop weight, avoid the food group

Nuts and Seeds (raw and unroasted only): Almonds, brazil, chestnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia, nut butters, pecans, pine nuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts

Oils:  Coconut, flaxseed, grapeseed, EVOO, sesame, sunflower-seed

Dairy: Butter (unsalted), clarified butter (ghee).  I read how to make ghee once and it sounded disgusting.

Fruit: Green apples, avocado, berries, coconut, lemons, and limes.  No dried fruit.

Beverages: Green tea, herbal tea, unsweetened mineral water, unsweetened almond, coconut, or hemp milk, and water.

    Is nutritional yeast ok and miso, coconut aminos. Coconut vinegar?

      I”m not sure. I’d need to research that a little more to give you a definite answer. Any other readers know??

    Why is it that gf grains and legumes are ok…. Other sources say otherwise

    And many sources say that fermented foods are helpful, yet this book says no

    Candida is so confusing
